Brief

Design a personal inventory prototype application that would enable users to create a catalog of their valuables in case of catastrophe.

Users

Anyone and everyone with a vested interest in holding records of personal value: home owners, insurance companies, small business, and more.

Summary

We take for granted that we are usually safe from disaster and property loss. Should a disaster strike, it would be helpful to have a record of your property. Inspired by the work I had done at Enservio, I decided to create a consumer-facing application to make it easier for people to file insurance claims.

I turned to Sketch to create user journey maps so that I could fully visualize an end-to-end experience. I broke the flow into screens and decision-points. This enabled me to design something that would be simple and intuitive to use without the need for elaborate instructions.

The journey maps also helped me to develop the prototype much faster because I was able to focus on the “happy paths” for users. The prototype build was much more efficienct, and it enabled me to hone in on delivering a superior MVP prototype with the behaviors and experience of a more mature application.
